UC Group Dailey And Vincent Added To State Song List

A bluegrass music group with Upper Cumberland ties gained state recognition for one of its songs.

Dailey and Vincent’s “I’ll Leave my Heart in Tennessee” has been approved by state legislators as the newest state song. State Representative John Mark Windle sponsored the bill as well as State Senator Paul Bailey.

“The song ‘I’ll Leave My Heart in Tennessee’ is an amazing song,” Windle said. “Dailey and Vincent does such a superlative job performing the song. Jamie Dailey is such a genuine person. He has given back so much to the Upper Cumberland in general.”

Dailey is a native of Gainesboro and Darrin Vincent is a Smithville resident, according to Windle. The musical group began the Cumberland River Music Festival in Jackson County last year. They return again this October with a new line-up for the two-day event.

The song joins a list of just 10 state songs that includes classics such as “Rocky Top” and “When It’s Iris Time in Tennessee.” Windle said the band performed the song live for the General Assembly after passing the bill.
