UC Airport Audit Shows No Findings

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport’s 2024 financial audit came back with no findings.

Airport Director Dean Selby said an independent auditor searched through financial records to find if there were any financial improprieties. Selby said he did not know what to expect because the airport had to use a different auditing firm this year.

“Having a fresh person looking at all of your books and go through all of your leases, and all of your legal documents is a little bit nerve-racking,” Selby said. “But we were happy to report that we came out of it with a completely clean audit and no findings.”

Selby said the previous auditor released several clients and the airport happened to be one of them. Selby said with all of the state and federal laws a clean audit for an airport is not easy to come by.

“It’s hard to make sure that you are reporting everything correctly,” Selby said. “It’s a challenge but it’s a daily task that has to be done to make sure that nothing goes on that’s in the gray area.”

The airport used JHM Certified Public Accountants out of Chattanooga to perform the audit. Selby said he was pleased after working with JHM.

“We learned something from every auditor,” Selby said. “Every audit we have ever had we have always learned something that’s new or a better way to record things. We learned something different from them then we would learn from other people and it was a win-win situation to have a fresh set of eyes on everything.”

Selby said the clean audit reflects the hard work the airport staff has put in to make sure the airport operates honestly and properly.
