Beginning this year, TWRA will set fishing and hunting regulations every other year instead of annually. TWRA commission made this decision at the last TWRA meeting.
Brian McLerran is TWRA District 3 Commissioner.
“We felt it gave the agency more time to better prepare and better hear from the public,” McLerran said. “To have a better understanding of what is going on with our wildlife and our resources.”
Along with creating time for proper regulation setting, the commission will hold public meetings, McLerran said. TWRA will hold the meeting in various locations throughout the year.
“We are going to be having two public meetings in each region now,” McLerran said. “We invite the public to come out and talk to us and give us their opinions.”
The TWRA updated the proceedings with sportsmen in mind, McLerran said.
“We feel it will give them a better voice,” McLerran said. “And give us a little better understanding and longer to digest the information we gather.”
The next TWRA meeting will take place on April 26 at TWRA Ray Bell Region II Building.
