Twin Lakes Now Offering 10 Gig High-Speed Internet

One of the fastest internet speeds available today is now an option for some in the Upper Cumberland.

Twin Lakes is offering 10 Gig broadband. Manager/CEO Jonathan West said typical broadband speeds have a 25 megabit connection. 10 gig is 400 times faster.

“Do I need that? How fast is that? What does that mean?” West said. “I think the easiest way to describe it is a 4K movie. A two-hour long 4K movie recorded in the highest picture quality available. You can download that entire two-hour movie in 40 seconds.”

West said the internet speed is available to any Twin Lakes customer with fiber optic connection. West said Twin Lakes has worked the last 10 years to construct the network infrastructure.

“Ten gigs is a natural progression of service availability,” West said. “It’s at our forefront. We’re looking what’s beyond 10 gig. If you take a step back and go back seven or eight years ago when we first unveiled our 1 gig offering, people said I don’t need a gig. Well today, 50 percent of all customers that sign up for service today take a gig.”

West said the internet is most useful for high broadband use such as businesses transferring large images or households with several gamers or people working at home. Twin Lakes serves Clay, Fentress, Jackson, Overton, Pickett and Putnam Counties.

“The demand for more connectivity, faster connectivity and more information flowing over the internet, it’s coming,” West said. “It’s coming everyday, so we want to make sure all of our customers have the opportunity.”
