The Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center will provide an overview of its services to domestic abuse victims during a Tuesday panel.
The panel titled “What Happens When Your World Turns Upside Down” will focus on issues like housing, prosecution, mental health assistance, substance abuse counseling, and safety planning. Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth Regional Coordinator Kristi Paling said the event will try to share valuable information.
“They have a multitude of services that they can provide victims of domestic violence,” Paling said. “So it’s to showcase that, and we have experts from various organizations who will be sharing how they intersect and what services they provide.”
The discussion will be held from 11am to 1pm at UCDD. Paling said the panel will largely act as a walk-through of what seeking out help through the Justice Center would entail.
“It’s a wonderful feeling because it’s an opportunity for those that are seeking the information to actually receive valuable information and the work that they do,” Paling said.
Paling said that the theme of the year has been “Everyone Knows Someone,” encouraging people to spread valuable information.
“They can provide direction to someone, whether it’s a family member or someone they work with or work for,” Paling said. “That they can provide this timely information and accurate information in order to receive help.”
Representatives from the 13th Judicial Attorney’s Office, the Putnam Sheriff’s Office, Genesis House, and Empower Upper Cumberland will be a part of the event. It’s part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
