TTU Lifts Temporary Mask Mandate For Indoor Facilities On Campus

Tennessee Tech has dropped its indoor mask requirement on campus.

Chief Communication Officer Karen Lykins said the university still strongly encourages face coverings regardless of vaccination status.

“Looking at our dashboard numbers, we’ve seen that our campus case numbers have remained consistently low, and we also know that the Tech health services team has worked tirelessly to protect the health of our campus community,” Lykins said.

The temporary mandate was issued in August when classes began. University COVID cases peaked in September with 125 positives. As of Wednesday, Tech has 12 active cases.

Lykins said free COVID vaccinations will continue to be available on campus. Lykins said like many other universities, Tech plans to launch an incentive campaign to encourage more students to take the shot.

“It is still in the works, but you can look at patterns,” Lykins said. “It’s just about prizes and incentives from things that are useful on campus including scholarships maybe in the mix.”
