Tennessee Tech athletic teams have exceeded the national Academic Progress Rate (APR) standards for the 13th consecutive year.
Athletics Director Mark Wilson said the APR standard is a benchmark to determine how an athletics program is meeting its mission of educating its student-athletes. He said he attributes the success to the dedication of the student-athletes, the coaching staff, and the faculty and staff at Tennessee Tech.
“College athletics is in a higher education environment and in a higher education environment our ultimate goal is for students to graduate,” Wilson said. “And to graduate them that means you must retain them. To graduate them that means they must make progress toward their degree.”
The minimum APR standard score is 930. Wilson said Men’s Tennis and the Women’s Golf teams both achieved perfect scores of 1000.
Wilson said the football team led the Ohio Valley Conference with the best score in the OVC. He said six other teams also were the best in their leagues.
“I’m really pleased with the academic success of our student-athletes,” Wilson said. “And this is just another measurement of their success in the classroom and their commitment to academics.”
