Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter and Cookeville City Mayor Ricky Shelton will receive recommendations for fund dispersal Friday from the Tornado Relief Committee.
Committee Chair Bob Bell said the committee tried to make the questions asked of those seeking relief as simple and as sensitive as possible. However, the process of reviewing the applications was very difficult.
“Most of us on the committee had been out on site in one way or another and had seen the devastation and had worked in it, and we understood,” Bell said, “But it still was painful. We knew we were dealing with death, and with injury and with profound personal loss in terms of both property and lives.”
Bell said the official recommendations would be delivered Friday. The county and the city will then do final processing and distribute the checks.
The two mayors formed the fund in the aftermath of the March 3 tornado. They wanted a separate committee that would disperse money.
Just over 450 recommendations for funds will be submitted Friday.
