Tips To Start Recycling In The New Year

The arrival of a new year brings many people wanting to turn over a new leaf.

One way to make a positive change in your life and in the environment is to begin the proper recycling practices. Putnam County Solid Waste Program Manager Lisa Luck said the best way to start is to lay it out in front of you.

“Put a tarp on the ground, dump your garbage onto the tarp and look and see what you have, look and see what can be recycled,” Luck said. “And once you see your materials and get to know your materials it is so much easier.”

Luck said not can proper recycling help the environment, it can also help the taxpayers. She said by easing some of the load of public works departments, it can create more efficient practices for the employees and more effective use of tax dollars. Luck said recycling can also bring in additional revenue to the solid waste department.

Luck said if people are interested in learning more tips about how to start and sustain good recycling practices, there are several resources. She said to visit the county’s website at whywastegarbage.com.
