This week in the Upper Cumberland Putnam County will present its new fiscal budget for the first time Monday.
The county budget committee has met multiple times over the past months to construct the spending plan. It includes some $98 million dollars worth of bonds. About $44 million for a new PreK-8 school, located off Lee Seminary Road and about $52 million for the county jail expansion.
Along with the expenditures comes a proposed 10 cent property tax increase. The commission will open for public comment on the tax hike at 5:00 p.m.with the budget presentation to follow at 6:00 p.m.
The agenda for Monday also includes the appointment of Putnam County’s redistricting committee.
The Cookeville Planning Commission will consider action on multiple subdivisions on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Two large developments will be voted on: the preliminary plat for Kensington Subdivision, a 41 lot neighborhood located on Buffalo Valley Road, and the final plat for The Villages, 22 lots on Broadway Avenue.
The commission will also consider studying the rezoning of 980 Salem Church Road from Regional Commercial and Single-Family Residential to General Commercial.
The Fentress County Commission will meet in a reconvened meeting on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
The City of Algood will hold a Special Called Council Meeting on Friday at 5pm at Algood City Hall. Members will consider approving new bids for the first phase of the Algood Park.
The first bid opening was over budget, and the city did not move forward with a contractor. The first phase of the park at the end of Thompson Lane and Main Street includes an entrance, parking, bathrooms and a walking track.
The council will also consider a LBJC Head Start roof replacement, and White Plains Historic Home roof repair bids.
