This Week: Overton Commissioners Consider Lawsuit Settlement

This week the Overton County Commission will consider a settlement counter offer for a lawsuit against the county.

The Hargis Vs. Overton County lawsuit came after a man passed away in the custody of the Overton County Sheriff’s Department and the cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation. The commission will also consider a resolution that would allow a liquor referendum to go on the county’s November 2024 ballot. The meeting begins at 5:00pm on Monday.

White County’s Steering Committee B meets at 5:00pm on Monday. Steering Committee A meets after them to discuss a road study for Smithville Highway. The Budget Committee will come together after that.

Also Monday at 5:00pm the Byrdstown Aldermen will have a discussion with Consulting Engineer Nathaniel Green.

The Fentress County Budget Committee meets at 5:00pm on Monday to discuss sheriff deputy raises and equipment for the solid waste department. The Ambulance Committee will meet after them to go over an increase in Medicare rates.

At 5:00pm on Monday the Algood City Council holds its monthly a work session. Council will discuss an amendment to a municipal code related to the usage of fines and penalties as well as an amendment to the city charter.

The Pickett County Board of Education will consider an update to its policy in regard to student suicide prevention. The board will start with a work session at 5:30pm and begin the meeting at 6:00pm.

At 6:00pm on Monday the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority Board comes together to discuss a meeting with TDEC’s senior leadership and the hiring of a general manager.

Monterey Aldermen will consider a bid for improvements to a local soccer field as well as applying for a T-DOT transportation planning grant. The meeting is at 7:00pm on Monday.

Tuesday at 5:00pm the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board meets.

Also at 6:00pm on Tuesday the Crossville City Council, Celina Aldermen, and Van Buren County’s Committee B all meet.

Tuesday at 6:30pm the Overton County Board of Education will consider approval of two bids; one for HVAC replacement at Livingston Middle School and another for new laptops for students in the district.

The McMinnville Aldermen meet at 7:00pm on Tuesday.

Wednesday at 8:30am the Putnam County Election Commission will meet.

The White County Board of Education will have work session at 5:00pm on Thursday followed by a meeting at 6:00pm. Also Thursday, the Clay County Board of Education meets at 6pm.

The DeKalb County Commission will have a special called meeting on Friday at 6:00pm to discuss a radio update for emergency personnel. .
