Tennessee Tech Hosting Family Weekend

Tennessee Tech hosting its annual Family Weekend event for students to enjoy time with their families and show off the school campus.

Director for New Student and Family Programs Courtney Brehm said the event is a weekend-long event with many activities including an on-campus scavenger hunt, family feud, and even a reptile exhibit. Brehm said the event allows the families of students to see the campus and also see their student’s favorite spots to go to within the community.

“We have events happening all across campus even some events within the community as well,” Brehm said. “And really our hope is just that again families will be able to kind of get that glimpse into their student’s college experience both on and off campus.”

Brehm said hosting the event a month into the fall semester is by design. Brehm said at this time in the fall semester, some first-time students begin to feel homesick.

“A lot of times especially for new students and new freshmen they tend to get homesick around this time,” Brehm said. “So that’s kind of why we tend to host it when we do so that we are bringing their families to them so that the student is not always having to go home to visit their family.”

Brehm said the event is just another way for the university to show how much they care about the students and their families.

“We care so deeply about our students here,” Brehm said. “I think anyone that you talk to on our campus you know it’s just very evident that we care about the students. I think that is something that’s really important is to kind of partner with families and their student’s success.”

Brehm said they will have multiple events throughout each day and that events are schedule-friendly. Family Weekend continues through Sunday.
