Tennessee Tech students are considering a new fee to help create new parking options on campus.
Student Trustee Addison Dorris said SGA wanted to explore real options for what has been a long-term campus problem. Students are currently analyzing data from a student survey to the proposed Transportation, Parking and Infrastructure Fee, or TPI.
“This fee would end the current parking system of colored tags and lots and instead change all students to pay a flat fee to access all campus parking,” Dorris said. “This fee would generate more revenue for projects such as parking garages, parking garage and lot maintenance, sidewalk repairs, and just other general infrastructure around transportation and campus.”
Based on the outcome of the survey, Dorris said SGA would approach the Board of Trustees with a formal proposal for the fee and and outline of student priorities.
Dorris said working with Vice President for Planning & Finance Claire Stinson, SGA held a town hall discussing parking issues and possible solutions.
“The panel was able to gain insightful feedback on both sides of the issue from the student perspective,” Dorris said.
