Tech Professor Receives New Award For Work In Education

Tennessee Tech accounting professor Dr. Ann Davis has been named the first recipient of the university’s David K. Morgan Faculty Fellowship.

The award is given to recognize people involved in important research, impactful service, and innovative teaching practices. Davis began working with the university in 2012 and is the coordinator for the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program.

“I am honored to receive this award at this point in my career,” Davis said. “As coordinator of our MAcc program, I am committed to bringing innovative ideas to our hybrid program. I hope that this award will allow me time to focus on research, especially research informing my classroom and impacting the accounting profession.”

Donor David K. Morgan said he established the fellowship to show his gratitude to the school that prepared him for his successful career in accounting. Davis was able to meet Morgan at the Evening of Excellence Alumni Awards during Homecoming weekend.

“I had a great collegiate experience at Tennessee Tech,” Morgan said. “And I had several professors who were great teachers and great people who inspired me to be a CPA. I hope students come out of Tech prepared to succeed in the world. I hope they advance in their careers and become partners in firms and do great work for their clients. The thing about public accounting is that we serve the public. Whether it’s businesses or individuals, they need the services we provide.”

Morgan was an accounting student at Tech who graduated in 1974. He said the MAcc program is important for students who wish to pursue becoming a CPA and was glad to hear that Davis is the coordinator of the program.

Davis is a licensed certified professional accountant (CPA) in the state of Tennessee and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
