TDOT Halts Lane Closures During Thanksgiving Holiday

Construction won’t delay Thanksgiving travelers.

TDOT Community Relations Coordinator Jennifer Flynn said the department will halt lane closure activity beginning Wednesday at Noon.

“We will not have any lane closures on interstates or state routes that will impede traffic,” Flynn said. “We want to make sure that everybody will be able to travel safely and we’ll have out roads open as much as we can to help accommodate that.”

Lane closure activity will resume at 6 a.m. Monday, December 2.

While all lane closure activity will be stopped, workers will remain on site in some construction zones. Long-term lane closures will also remain in place on some construction projects for motorists’ safety.

Flynn said drivers need to obey the posted speeds, especially in work zones.

“If you do get a ticket for violating a speed limit in the work zone, the fees associated with that are considerably increased,” Flynn said. “It can hurt you in the pocket book if you disobey the speed limit and get caught doing it. Everybody just needs to work together because we’re out there trying to make Tennessee roadways better and safer for everyone.”

AAA predicts more than 55 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the Thanksgiving holiday. Tennesseans make up 1.3 million of those travelers, with an estimated 1.2 million expected to travel by automobile.
