The TBI is investigating the death of a Morrison man after he fled a DeKalb County crash scene and was arrested by White County deputies.
The TBI released a statement saying the 25-year-old man was unresponsive upon arrival to the White County Jail for booking. The man was pronounced dead at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital.
A THP crash report indicated the man fled the scene of a crash on Highway 70 in DeKalb County Thursday morning. He was located a short time later in White County and tased by officers when a struggle began.
The report states that 27-year-old Lakean Woods of Rock Island suffered injuries during the single vehicle crash and received treatment at Nashville’s Skyline Medical Center. Her condition is currently unknown.
The crash report indicates Woods was driving westbound in a 2003 Chevy Tahoe when she lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve.
The report states the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, struck a rock embankment, and overturned before crossing back over the road and striking another rock embankment on the right side of the road.
Woods faces multiple charges including reckless driving, financial responsibility, possession of a schedule II drug and driving on a suspended license.
