Tax Day Approaches, Tax Preparation Bustles

Have you filed your tax return yet? Tax day is tomorrow and if you haven’t filed, make an appointment with a local tax preparation business.

Miranda Zupancic manages Liberty Tax Service.

“I would get in as soon as you can because I don’t know how busy any of us would be, H and R Block, Jackson Hewitt or us,” Zupancic said. “So if you need to come in and file, then just call and make an appointment. That’s what I suggest, is to make an appointment so you have a guaranteed spot anywhere.”

Zupancic said that even if you don’t file your return on time, you should at least file an extension.

“The IRS will not call you. That is our biggest question. Just try to avoid the penalty,” Zupancic said. “If you can’t come in and file your return, then at least come in and file an extension so you don’t have to pay that penalty with the IRS.”

With Tax Day just around the corner, local tax preparation businesses overflow with people trying to file.

“We’ve been pretty busy. We typically don’t open until nine,” Zupancic said. “I had people here at eight thirty already waiting this morning.”
