Local Plant Leaves Endangered List

A plant native only to the Upper Cumberland is being removed from the Endangered Species List. The Cumberland Sandwort is a pink, flowering perennial, is only found in parts of Fentress, Morgan, Scott, and Pickett Counties. The plant rebounded from only 11 plants in 1988 to over 70 today. Jamestown Rezones Two Pieces Of Property

The Jamestown City Council approved two rezoning requests along Rugby Avenue. The Planning Commission recommended the approval to rezone the property C-1, General Business. One parcel is located at 234 Rugby Avenue, the other at 709 Rugby Avenue. Both properties had been zoned high density residential. The Council approved the rezoning Monday night on final reading 4-0. Strong winds Sunday evening led to some 4,000 Fentress County residents being without power. Volunteer Energy reports major power outages in both the Jamestown and Clarkrange areas just before 8pm Sunday.
