McMinnville’s new armory facing some minor delays in completion due to supply chain issues.
County Executive Terry Bell said the project has been some 10 years in the making. The state broke ground on the 33,000-square-foot facility about a year ago.
“They were hoping to be in it in August but I think from what I’m hearing we may be looking at more of a September/October deadline now,” Bell said. “But they’re looking to getting that project completed and hopefully they’ll get it done.”
Bell said the new building is much needed since the existing armory was more than 60 years old. He said it is one of the oldest armories in the state that had yet to be renovated.
The center is located along Manchester Highway between McMinnville and Morrison. The space will be used to ready trainees as well as a community event space.
“Mr. Max Haston approached us and said if we would buy some ground for us to put the armory on he would push to try and get us some federal and state funding,” Bell said. “(…)And it’s taken this long to get this done, but the need was really there like I said they were in a facility that was built back in the 50s I think so they had really outgrown their space.”
Bell said this will be a huge asset to the community once the armory is completed.
