Sunset Marina will continue its 10 year run as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers certified Clean Marina, after being recognized by the Nashville District.
Vice President and General Manager Tom Allen said his marina is judged on how it manages sewage, fuel and chemicals, all things that could cause damage to Dale Hollow Lake. Allen said it’s a tedious process managing those aspects of the marina, but knows it pays off in more ways than just being certified.
“It’s to our advantage to make sure they remain clean and pristine and beautiful,” Allen said. “Otherwise visitors and tourists and boaters don’t want to come here, so we take that obligation seriously.”
Allen said he and the marina follow the motto of “leave it how you found it” at Dale Hollow Lake. He said even though it might take a long time to meet the Clean Marina standards, they are not difficult to achieve.
“Many marinas don’t take the time and energy and effort to go through it,” Allen said. “Dale Hollow Lake is our livelihood and we want to keep it clean and looking good and environmentally sound for future generations.”
Allen said Sunset Marina was certified in 2010 and will be continue as a Clean Marina until 2025. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducts this environmental standard check every five years.
