A Tennessee Tech student committed suicide on campus early Saturday.
President Phil Oldham said in a statement during the Noon hour that he had met with the student’s family and expressed the university’s sympathies.
“As we process this news together, I encourage you to reach out to those around you, extend an added measure of kindness and be ready to listen and support,” Oldham said in an email sent to the entire University community.
University counselors are on standby this weekend to help students, faculty and staff, according to the email. The Eagle Eye Crisis Hotline is available at (855) 206-8997. Oldham said a moment of silence will be observed during Saturday’s homecoming activities.
The Homecoming Parade route was altered earlier Saturday morning as investigators were at the site of the incident completing their work. The incident did not take place in a dormitory.
