A Crossville fire station coverage study has shown a need to relocate Station 2.
City Manager Greg Wood said there is an overlap between station 1 and 2 of about 40 percent.
“We’re looking at potentially moving station 2 to the north, which would only require an investment for a new building,” Wood said. “We already have all the equipment and man power we need to cover that station and it would provide better coverage.”
Wood said the area of Highway 127 and Genesis Road will likely be the new home. But, Wood said interested sellers and property prices will determine the feasibility.
“With the growth up towards the north with 127 being four-laned, we are really looking at opportunities to provide better coverage,” Wood said. “Additionally, we have the Gardens, a pretty high-end subdivision for recreational vehicle owners, that’s been growing like gangbusters.”
Wood said at the same time, structural issues of station 2 will make the relocation happen in the next couple years. The study also called for a third station close to the airport, but Wood said that would be further down the road.
“We actually have very good coverage in the city,” Wood said. “We have an ISO rating of three with the exception of a couple of areas that are back behind the Playhouse. This will help that situation and eventually station three will take care of it completely.”
