Standing Stone Day Postponed Due to Weather

Monterey’s Standing Stone Day has been postponed to October 24 because of rain Saturday.

Standing Stone Historical Society President Rebekah Beeler said she has been watching the weather all week and wanted to avoid calling it off too early. However, Beeler said vendor concerns about crafts and food forced the decision.

“We’ve literally never in 41 years, we have never used a rain date ever, it’s always been rain or shine,” Beeler said. “This is not just rain, this is a little bit different, so we thought it would be wise to postpone and we’ve never cancelled either.”

Beeler said if rain is expected again on October 24, she will look at renting a tent for vendors and entertainment.

“Even if it rains in two weeks I can rent a tent to make sure our entertainers are in the dry,” Beeler said. “Their drums and everything are safe and good, and our vendors are happy, then that’s what we’re doing.”

Beeler said postponing is about making sure patrons are having a good time as well. Beeler said this event usually happens no matter what, but she does not want people to be miserable.

“We’ve been up there in the snow, we’ve been up there in the sleet, the rain, went in the fog and ice cold and the blistering sun,” Beeler said. “We’ve been out there in every kind of weather but this is a little bit more intense.”

At this time Standing Stone Day is set to go as planned, on its new date. The planned start time is 8:00 AM in Monterey.
