Sparta’s Sewer Rehab Project Complete

Sparta’s sewer rehab project has been completed under budget, so the city is using the remaining funds to prepare for future work.

City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the contractor is currently scoping pipelines for areas of concern.

“We had a little money left over, and we asked them to do camera work of more of our system to prioritize our problem areas for the next CDBG,” Hennessee said. “Trying to get the biggest bang for our buck.”

A Community Development Block Grant awarded the city $498,000. That money was mainly spent on increasing sewage capacity and replacing old lines within the city.

“We expect this work to be completed before we leave for Thanksgiving,” Hennessee said. “Then we will be able to evaluate where we stand. Not only with the CDBG, but it will help us prioritize in formulating our three year plan especially in our infrastructure needs. That will steer us toward what we do in the sprig and next summer.”

Hennessee said the city plans on applying for the next round of CDBG grants for more infrastructure upgrades.
