Sparta-White County Rescue Asking For Donations

White County Residents receiving letters from the Sparta-White County Rescue Squad asking for donations.

The Rescue Squad is a volunteer squad that helps in every type of rescue besides fire rescue. Assistant Chief Charlie Tollison said the letters were sent out to raise funds for a truck to replace a work truck that has been worn down.

“We are totally one hundred dependent upon funds,” Tollison said. “The county gives us a small amount and the city does too, but it’s not enough to be able to expand you might say to buy new equipment and do training and stuff, so we have to rely on donations cause we are all one hundred percent volunteer and there is no type of financial backing for us without donations.”

The rescue squad will host a meeting with the treasurer to see if they have received any money after the letters were sent out last week. Tollison said he wanted to ensure residents the letters are legitimate.

Tollison said donating is one of the best ways residents can help them out.

“Most definitely that’s the best they can help us really,” Tollison said. “Other than if someone has plenty of time on their hands and would like to volunteer to be a member we could also use that.”

Tollison said they usually use donations to purchase equipment but this year a new truck is the major concern.

“Our main concern right now, and we may not get enough this year and we got to save it,” Tollison said. “Hopefully we get enough next year to go with it to get the new truck cause trucks are not cheap now, so hopefully we can get enough to get one this year but if not we will have to hold on to the money till next year.”

For citizens who did not receive the letter and would like to donate, you can visit the rescue squad building or call them for more information about donating.
