Sparta To Receive Award For Excellence In Public Works

The Tennessee Municipal League has recognized Sparta with an Achievement Award for Excellence in Public Works.

City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the honor shows the hard work of the department, Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

“The department has been faithful in the undertaken of all of this,” Hennessee said. “We knew this it was heading into the right direction, but this is a validation of it on a statewide level.”

The city will be presented the award at the TML Annual Award Breakfast in Gatlinburg on August 16th. The Municipal League credited Sparta’s overhaul of infrastructure specifically water and sewer rehab, paving and the newly completed gateway monuments.

“I would like to stress the importance of having a supportive board,” Hennessee said. “In my time here, the Sparta Mayor and Board of Aldermen has been very supportive of requests that both I’ve had and the department has had. The Public Works Department deserves congratulations also. They have bought into our plan.”

Hennessee said the result of the aggressive improvement plans resulted in the state recognition. Hennessee asked that the Mayor Jeff Young, Public Works Director Dillard Quick and each Aldermen to attend the ceremony to receive the award.

Sparta’s maintenance schedule, park improvements and facade program were also recognized. The city of McMinnville will also receive an award in Gatlinburg for Storm water Mitigation.

The Tennessee Municipal League is a voluntary, cooperative organization made up of cities and towns across the state. Its primary function is to represent municipalities at a state government level.
