Sparta to Interview City Admin Candidate Friday

The Sparta Board of Aldermen and Mayor will interview the final city administrator candidate Friday.

Mayor Jeff Young said Brad Hennessee will participate in the less formal interview.

“This is more so just a conversation, I guess you could call it an interview. But we are considering him for the city administrator position for Sparta,” Young said. “But we have done two interviews with him and this is just sort of a final conversation-interview to determine if we think he is the right fit for us.”

Hennessee became the last candidate after Algood City Administrator Keith Morrison removed himself from consideration.

Young said the board will need to determine whether to go forward with hiring Hennessee.

“We just want to get to know him a little bit more. We assume that anyone that is in the position could potentially be there for many years,” Young said, “and we just want to make sure we are solid in our decision. This is part of that research mechanism to decide who is the best fit for us to have this conversation.”

Initially, the City of Sparta reviewed twelve applicants for the position.

“We appreciate each and every candidate consideration of the position at Sparta. They all bring certain qualities to the table that are admirable and respectful,” Young said. “We just want to do the best thing for our community and citizens by putting the best person in the job.”

The Sparta Board of Aldermen and Mayor will interview Hennessee on June 14.
