Sparta Mechanical Issues Continue, Trash Pickups Returning To Normal

Sparta has caught up on its trash pickups after facing several delays the past week due to mechanical issues.

Public Works Director Dillard Quick said the issues still continue though. One truck remains under repair while another will enter the shop for emission issues.

“We’re spending thousands and thousands of dollars on these trucks, and we’re not the only ones,” Quick said. “We finally picked up everybody’s trash up on Friday. As of this week, we have picked up everybody’s trash.”

Quick said city workers worked overtime last weekend in order to complete routes. Quick said truck repairs seem to be an ongoing issue that the city cannot get ahead on.

Quick said the freight liner that has been delivering trash to McMinnville is repaired. The city has been diverting trash out-of-county ever since White County closed its landfill. Quick said he has still not heard any word about the county’s plan for reopening the landfill.
