The Sparta Board of Mayor and Alderman decided to postpone a vote authorizing City Administrator Brad Hennessee to enter an agreement with a leak insurance company.
During Thursday night’s meeting, Hennessee said an in-house leak insurance is being considered.
Hennessee said there is a chance some customers would be left behind, if they do not have both water and sewer service through the city. There are 3,000 water customers, but Hennessee said 17 percent of those customers do not have sewer service.
Hennessee said it could end up being more cost-effective for Sparta to run the leak insurance itself. He said the city will consider its options for leak insurance over the next two weeks, trying to determine what will be most beneficial to the city and its customers.
