Sparta City Administrator Brad Hennessee Resigns

Sparta City Administrator Brad Hennessee has resigned from his position.

Mayor Jerry Lowery said Hennessee emailed a resignation letter Thursday night. Lowery said he accepted the resignation Friday morning.

“There’s just been a lot going on, and I was not expecting that email,” Lowery said. “But, it is what it is. We are going to continue move forward and just try to make Sparta an awesome place to live, work and play.”

The Board of Aldermen is set to meet Thursday night for a regularly scheduled meeting. Lowery said a work session will likely be scheduled by the board that night to discuss the appointment of an interim city administrator and a job posting.

“I have talked to the department heads and just said they need to just stay in touch with what is going on and make sure everything is moving forward,” Lowery said. “I will probably have a department head meeting and staff meeting before the board meeting next week.”

Lowery said Hennessee has indicated that he is accepting a position with another city. Hennessee was named city administrator in 2019.

“One thing that Brad said in his letter is that he is looking forward to a smooth transition and that’s what we all want,” Lowery said. “We know people take new positions, and nobody is ever at fault for bettering themselves and moving to a place where they need to be. With that said, we support Brad and his resignation.”
