The Sparta Board of Aldermen and Mayor approved the hiring of a city administrator Thursday.
New city administrator Brad Hennessee said he felt a number of emotions accepting the position.
“I’m humbled by the opportunity, thankful to the board, the staff, the people in Sparta that I have met. They have been very welcoming,” Hennessee said. “I am looking forward to it. Sparta has a great thing going and just looking forward to helping a good thing even better.”
The board interviewed Hennessee for a final time last week. Hennessee previously served as the Public Works Director in McMinnville.
“We do intend to move at some point. I have a family situation that the board knows about that prevents immediate relocation,” Hennessee said. “But as soon as that is resolved we do intend to move.”
The position originally opened up after the resignation of Chris Dorsey, who accepted a similar position in East Ridge near Chattanooga.
Hennessee said he will be available to work in Sparta on July 22.
