Sparta Bidding Out Materials To Construct New North Carter Street Pavilion

Sparta plans to build a new pavilion at North Carter Street Park by this summer.

The Board of Aldermen recently approved soliciting bids for materials. Public Works Director Dillard Quick said city employees will then construct the facility in-house.

“The city is just trying to make the parks as nice as what we can,” Quick said. “South Carter has a pavilion, but North Carter does not have a pavilion.”

Quick said the pavilion will be similar to the one on the south side of the park. Quick said the cost of materials will determine the exact size, but it would be about 24 by 30 feet. Quick said restrooms will also be installed inside the pavilion.

“With us using the city employees, we can make a nice facility,” Quick said. “It is going to have restrooms, lights and hopefully put some more sidewalk down and connect it to the other smaller facility.”

Quick said the city budgeted $50,000 for the project last year. Quick said a large demand for pavilion use in the summer for birthday parties caused the need.

“Right now, we have not put it out to bid, because we are still trying to get some pricing ourselves,” Quick said. “Hopefully, we will put out to bid next week and get it back in the next few weeks. Hopefully get everything bought and possibly built by the first of July.”
