Sparta’s American Legion Post 99 is expanding its services Tuesday with the opening of a new telehealth program.
A ribbon cutting at the Maple Street offices will be held at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the occasion. Commander Ron LaPierre said any veteran in the Upper Cumberland can use the new technology for free.
“We have a lot of older veterans, and especially in the bad weather, this will save them a lot of time and frustration of driving wherever they needed to go,” LaPierre said. “When they can just come, get on the computer, talk to the provider. There is a printer there, so they can print out their prescriptions or information they need right from downtown.”
LaPierre said a whole room is now dedicated to the services to provide private sessions. A grant from Ben Lomand Connect made purchasing and installing the technology possible.
“We modified a whole room and got new chairs, a conference table and the computer” LaPierre said. “Ben Lomand was awesome. They came in and ran all the wiring and it is going to be the high-speed.”
LaPierre said veterans must call (931) 836-3595 to make an appointment. LaPierre said the ribbon cutting will also have food available with the veterans museum open to tour.
