Sparta Aldermen Approves Bid For CCTV Work On Sewer System

City of Sparta will move forward with camera work on its sewer system utilizing part of the $500,000 CDBG grant.

The Board of Aldermen approved a low bid for the work at its meeting Thursday night. Public Works Director Dillard Quick said the current project will cover approximately 32,000 feet of sewer.

“So the contractor will come in, TV everything, up it all on a disk or a flash drive,” Quick said. “And then they’ll send everything to the engineer and the engineer will determine what sewer lines need to be repaired.

The city’s low bid came in at around $68,750. City Administrator Tonya Tindle said the city received bids ranging from $68,000 up to almost $600,000. Quick said he believes the high bid came in at that number because the company probably didn’t expect others to bid for the work.

“The one that bid $592,000 was just thinking no one else would put in for it and then thinks we would be crazy enough to pay for it,” Quick said.

Quick said the camera work will take about two to three weeks. He said the next step will be to hopefully go to work next summer after contractors get the camera footage to engineers.

In other business, the city also approved bids for other items, including a 300hp motor and verticle pump for the water plant and light poles.
