The Sparta Board of Aldermen appointed a new city judge Thursday night, as Macey Gurley resigned from the position.
Mayor Jerry Lowery and the board appointed Brandon Griffin, a Sparta-based attorney, as the new city judge.
“He had put in before when we’d hired the other judge,” Lowery said. “And he does a great job and I’ve talked with him and asked him would he still be interested in that position and he said yes, and so we just decided to, instead of delay everything and put it off another week or two, or two weeks ’til next meeting, we decided to just do it tonight.”
Gurley’s resignation came after she was arrested on charges of a DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
Lowery said Griffin does not have prior experience in this position, but has plenty of knowledge and is fit for the role.
