The Smithville Tenneco plant produced the exhaust systems for the new 2020 Corvette Stingrays.
Smithville Tenneco started producing for Corvette in 2004. Director of Operations Daryl Burcham said the exhaust system is unique, because the engine sits in the middle of the car.
“It is the first ever mid engine architecture for the Corvette,” Burcham said. “The engine sits just behind the cockpit like a true mid engine like a European sports car.”
Burcham said creating the classic engine sound for a mid engine designed vehicle was the hardest task to complete. But was worth the work for the iconic brand.
“When your people can actually see a car that well known and see those cars out in front of the plant was pretty moving,” Burcham said. “It gives the team a lot of pride to say I built something that goes to that car.”
