Smithville Aldermen Okay Funding To Build Splash Pad

Smithville will be getting a new splash pad after the Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved a budget amendment for the project Monday.

City Administrator Hunter Hendrixson said $173,000 has been allocated for the Green Brook Park project.

“There’s always been requests for something to do for the kids and what can the city do and what not. We’re limited with how much we can do, so a splash pad seemed like a good option,” Hendrixson said.

Hendrixson said the goal is to have the facility open sometime next spring. Hendrixson said the 2,400 square foot splash pad will be similar to Livingston’s with several water apparatuses.

“Once we sign the contract, it will be about a 12-week lead time to get the materials,” Hendrixson said. “(…) We’ll be able to do some on-site as far as the water and sewer. We’ll be able to do that in-house and save a little bit of money. A lot of it depends on the weather, but if everything goes as planned, we’re thinking hopefully May.”

Hendrixson said Smithville has been working on the project for past the 4-5 months. Hendrixson said he believes the splash pad will be popular among families considering the park location.
