Education, trigger laws and transportation will be a focus for the General Assembly this year.
That is according to house Speaker Cameron Sexton. Sexton said law makers start a new session Tuesday lasting into the spring.
“There will still be some education whether it is charter schools,” Sexton said. “I think looking at some clarification for the trigger bill for abortion. I think looking at express lanes or choice lanes for transportation to handle highly congested areas in our state will be a part of the discussion.”
Sexton said a new state budget will also be passed this session. Sexton said he anticipates an increase as revenue continues to grow. Sexton said more investments into infrastructure and schools as well as tax reductions could be possible.
Several new members were elected to the General Assembly last year. Sexton said new members will be appointed to their respective committees after a house speaker is officially elected Tuesday.
