Starting today there will be a one-year sales tax holiday for gun safes and gun safety devices.
D.T. McCall & Sons owner-partner Cris McCall said he anticipates a spike in gun safe sales. McCall said when you’re taking 9.75 percent off the price of safes that can cost between $800 to $5,000 dollars, consumers see significant savings.
“We see a lot of people who come in and buy safes not necessarily for guns,” McCall said. “But as well for any type of documents, keepsakes. I’ve got a gun that’s not worth anything to me but it was my great grandfathers. It doesn’t mean anything to others but too me it has a huge sentimental value.”
Outdoor Junction President Steve Carter said this year will benefit gun safety and safe storage in homes. Carter said having sales tax removed from gun safety devices adds an extra layer of home protection.
“We do carry various other kinds of gun safety devices,” Carter said. “From little storage ones to the ones that do trigger locks and goes through the chamber.”
Carter said that free gun locks are given away with the purchase of a firearm, but they are needed for any secondhand or hand me down firearms. The sales tax holiday will run until June 30 of 2022.
