Roofing Project At GES Bigger Scope Than Anticipated

Jackson County Schools taking preliminary steps in roofing projects.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said they’ve given the notice to proceed with a partial replacement at Dodson Branch School. However, she said Gainesboro Elementary’s notice has not been issued.

“When we got into looking at what needed to be done at Gainesboro Elementary, it’s an older school,” Brown said. “And we found that the scope of the project had been expanded just based on the needs of the building. So that’s taken a little bit more time to get the appropriate plans in place.”

Brown said they are working to make sure any possible issues with the project are addressed during this planning period. She said that roofing projects are typically large undertakings, and are looking at an estimate of over $1 million, which was higher than expected.

Brown said roof upgrades are projects that people may not see the immediate need for, but do need to be addressed. She said they are hoping to have the projects completed over the summer before the fall of next school year, but with supply chain issues, that remains to be seen.

“Those are things that come up but have to be done,” Brown said. “We want our buildings in good shape, and good learning environment for our kids, and good places to work for our teachers and staff.”
