The Chairman of the Putnam County Regional Planning Commission will not be seeking another term.
85-year-old Richard Wright announced his decision to step down during Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
“I served on planning commissions in this county for at least 25-years,” Wright said. “I’m not going to serve another term, but it’s been fun.”
Wright said his age and recent health issues caused him to reconsider serving another term on the commission.
“There’s a couple things happening with me. I guess you know this, but once it a while I don’t speak very clearly and the doctors and I do not know why,” Wright said. “It is true that I recently had an MRI on my head, and they discovered that I had two small strokes, but I was not aware of them.”
Wright’s current term on the commission ends at the end of this month. County Mayor Randy Porter said he plans to appoint a replacement during the September county commission meeting.
“Richard Wright has served on the Planning Commission for many years and played a big factor in establishing the Commission and the regulations it enforces today,” Porter said. “His voice on the Planning Commission will be greatly missed. On behalf of a grateful County, I want to thank Mr. Wright for all his years of service and dedication to Putnam County.”
Wright first served on the planning commission in the 1970’s as an appointed member from the county commission. He began serving as a non-commission member during the early 2000’s.
