Renegade Fishing Tournament Being Held At Dale Hollow Lake

Hundreds of anglers arrived in Pickett County as the Renegade Classic Bass Fishing Tournament kickoffs Thursday.

County Executive Stephen Bilbrey said the county commission made a $2,000 donation during its meeting this week to help with the operation.

“It does cost a little bit to get those folks here, and so the county donated, the town of Byrdstown donated some money and then, local businesses here will also chip in,” Bilbrey said. “They’re banking that what small donations they do make will be made up from sales.”

Bilbrey said fishing tournaments are a big economic boost for the county. Bilbrey said fishing teams will spend a couple weeks in the area practicing and competing resulting in additional sales tax revenue.

“It just puts some extra folks in our community to shop at our local businesses,” Bilbrey said. “It helps with our sales tax. It helps with our flood control money that we get from the Army Corp. Overall, it is a win-win for everyone.”

The tournament held at Star Point Marina will conclude on Saturday.
