A local body shop worker recommends getting the under side of your vehicle washed weekly when salt is present on roads.
Bob’s Body Shop and Salvage Manager Bill Grogan said if not, rust can set in quickly.
“We have a lot, especially pick up trucks that have major rust problems,” Grogan said. “And it is not just one manufacturer it is practically all of them. As a matter of fact, I got one in the shop now that the rocker panels are completely gone on it where the rust just eats it up.”
Grogan said in his business, old and new cars alike are vulnerable. Areas around a vehicles wheels and floor boards are usually the most affected.
“Salt is very damaging,” Grogan said. “It causes rust in the rocker panel areas, floorboards, frames and the wheels.”
Grogan said after a snow and salt, he recommends finding a car wash with an under body spray to make your vehicle last longer. Grogan said do this as quick as possible with corrosion occurring as early as one week after exposure.
