Rickman’s Red Oak Roasters is close to opening a second shop in Algood.
Owner Julie McCurdy said her business has been apart of the Upper Cumberland for four years. They hope to open in Algood by July.
“We’re trying to partner with the city to create a sense of community, and a place where people can just meet and hang out and get a great cup of coffee and fresh bakery [items],” McCurdy said.
The coffee shop will be located in the old Algood City Hall. McCurdy said no major renovations were made. She said the electric, plumbing, tiles, and hardwood had to be removed and replaced. McCurdy said this coffee shop will bring back a piece of downtown atmosphere. She said she’s already heard a lot of positive feedback from the Algood community about part of downtown being renovated.
“I think people like to sit and talk to each other,” McCurdy said. “I think some restaurants are big and noisy and to make money you have to turn tables. You can sit and have a conversation, you can sit as long as you like and just enjoy friends and family.”
All baked goods are made from scratch, and the coffee beans are from Nicaragua. McCurdy said the menu for the Rickman and Algood locations will remain the same.
