Rainy Weather Could Likely Attract Insects Indoors

Cold and rainy weather could potentially draw insects indoors and inside your home.

Steven Wheeler owns and operates PestPro pest control in Cookeville. He said several species have caused problems around the area due to recent rainfall.

“We get a lot of earwigs, millipedes, kind of creepy-crawly things,” Wheeler said. “We’ve had a lot of spiders this year. I don’t think it ever got cold enough to really take care of that. We’ve still kind of seen them go all the way through the winter, especially when you get weather like this. The rain will push them in.”

Wheeler recommends homeowners spray the outside of their homes to help keep unwanted pests from coming inside.

“You can also try granular products if you have a crawlspace. A lot of times, especially this time of year, your insects are just kind of underneath in the crawlspaces just trying to survive as weather pushes them into the house… Just in general, use insecticide on the exterior. It helps a lot of that from coming into the house.”

Wheeler also suggests homeowners check door and window seals for any gaps where insects and spiders could crawl through.
