Putnam Water Line Additions Going Well

Putnam County making good progress on the multiple new lines being added to the county’s water services.

County Mayor Randy Porter said the crew on the Martin Creek project is currently working to add water lines around McBroom Branch Road. Porter said that project should be finished around the end of the year unless weather causes any delays.

“They have to get all the line in first,” Porter said. “And then once they do that they’ll do a pressure test where they’ll actually activate the line with water and run the line and check for, make sure there’s no leaks or anything in the line.”

Porter said they just started another water line last month in the eastern area of the county around Mill Creek. He said the work is slower on that project because of the rocky terrain, but the work is projected to finish sometime next year.

“When I first came into office, I started hearing from folks that they didn’t have water access,” Porter said. “So we (were) trying to figure out how to do it.”

Porter said they are also working with the city of Algood to replace the water tank at Brotherton.

“You can’t have any more growth in that area as far as water goes unless that tank’s replaced,” Porter said. “We’re working with Algood City to use our ARP funds to do that one also. And they’re looking at having that bid out sometime in September and beginning work then soon thereafter.”

Porter said once the pressure test is completed for the Martin Creek project they will run access lines to individual water meters that people will be able to hook up to.

“It’s actually gone pretty good,” Porter said. “We’ve had some good weather and they’ve been able to make some good progress, so so far, so good.”

Porter said after that work is fully complete the Double Springs Utility District will take over operations and manage the water line going forward.
