Putnam Voting Numbers Deemed Accurate

Election officials compared tally tapes in Putnam County Thursday to determine accurate voting numbers.

Putnam County Administrator of Elections Michele Honeycutt said Tally Tapes are pieces of paper that voting machines print out once voting is closed to determine the total votes. The comparison held during the Election Commission’s monthly meeting and those from the public were allowed to see the process. Honeycutt said after comparing numbers, election officials did not find any issues.

“We did not, everything was exactly what was on the tape that we had written,” Honeycutt said. “And everything was exactly what the election night report said so there were no errors.”

Honeycutt said Putnam County had 129 provisional votes which are voters whose names do not show up as registered voters. Honeycutt said those Provisionals still have to be investigated.

“Right now we are going through each one to investigate it to see if we had them in the purge file or If they were a deficient by the deadline,” Honeycutt said. “If not if we don’t have anything but everything is complete in the envelope, then we send that to the state and then they contact the state agencies to see if these people attempted to register in a timely manner.”

Honeycutt said if the state deems the person registered in a timely manner their vote will be counted and if not in a timely manner then the vote would be voided. Honeycutt said there is still a lot of work to do to wrap up the election but she can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Honeycutt said the next step is to report all the address changes found on Election Day.

“In early voting when people come in with an address change we do them at that time,” Honeycutt said, “So those are done. We had 715 address changes during early voting. Election day we had over 400 address changes and we still have to do those now.”
