Putnam County is set to move forward with fixing flood issues along North Quinland Lake Road.
Putnam County Road Supervisor Randy Jones said that they plan to fix the overflow system by giving it greater capacity for big rain events.
“It keeps overflowing and washing the lower side of the road away,” Jones said. “We have had an engineer draw some plans. We are trying to get this stabilized and get the drain in that will keep this from happening so often.”
Jones said the county received four bids with the lowest from Rogers Group at some $267,000. He said that the flooding poses a major inconvenience to nearby residents, with the county experiencing these issues since at least 2010.
“We had lots of water in 2010 and we had lots of roadways washed out during that flooding period in that part of the county around through there,” Jones said. “And we thought it was just the abundance of water and air that fell so we just fixed it back and left everything like it was. And then in ’17 it did the same thing and we didn’t have the money to fix it at that time and we are working with the property owners of the pond or lake or whatever you want to call it trying to work with them to get this project to where we don’t have this problem anymore.”
Jones said that once the bid and contract are awarded, the group’s process of excavating and getting materials has about a 60-day window to complete the project.
