Putnam Library Continuing Partnership With Sheriff’s Office For Inmate Books

Putnam County Library continuing its partnered efforts with the jail to create a library for inmates.

Library Director Katherine Wisinger said the library began taking paperback book donations in February. She said since then, they have been able to donate more than 1,000 books.

“It keeps the prisoners involved in something good and something beneficial to them, it also keeps them out of trouble and helps protect our jail as far as damage because they have things to keep them busy,” Wisinger said.  “And it also helps our officers and keeps them safe because they have less things to respond to.”

Wisinger said the library has been a huge hit with inmates. She said their interests have run the gamut in genres, but the current favorite is thriller and suspense.

Wisinger said they hope to grow this donation program as the jail continues to grow. She said the end goal is to have a full and functioning library.
