Putnam High Schools To Go Virtual Friday

Putnam County high schools will use one of the district’s state-allotted virtual learning days Friday.

The days were created as a response to the pandemic and severe weather events closing down schools. Director of Schools Corby King said the need for Friday’s virtual learning day comes from having a lack of substitute teachers.

“So we looked at it and thought if we free up the subs that are going to be at the high schools and distribute those among the K-8 schools,” King said. “Our high school students don’t have to have childcare at home necessarily like the K-8 students might.”

King said this first virtual day will serve as a litmus test for virtual days moving forward. He said it will help faculty, students, and families figure out what works well and what needs to change moving forward.

King said the other schools in the district will operate normally.
